crytothemoon Interview: Upcoming Artist

Celebrating one of his songs making 100k plays on spotify, crytothemoon's melancholy melodies releases to continue to impress, amassing an increasing audience to reach just under half a million plays.

Who are your musical influences?

I think the music I make is like a mashup of all the different genres and artists I listen to. But it's probably the most influenced by lofi / alt pop artists especially Joji and Clairo.

What have been some of the biggest challenges?

Comparing my music to other artists and looking at other artists streams and thinking why isn't my music reaching those levels. After releasing my first song with vocals a lot of those worries dropped and now it's just making sure I finish projects and don't hop around onto new ideas. I think financially it's hard because although I make money from streams there's always the want for better equipment and software to try and push production to the next level.

Whats your typical schedule making beats?

A total fucking mess. I start songs and completely forget about them for months and then find them and finish them in a day. I think it's easy to work on lots of new ideas then finishing off songs. The last 10-20%

If you could collab with any artist who would you choose?

Joji, Clairo and rex orange county would be awesome as they've really inspired my sound. But an artist like yxngxr1 or guardin would be cool as are sounds are very different.

How does your music fit into your schedule?

Typically just whenever I have time or feel creative but during this pandemic I always seem to be picking up my guitar and trying out new stuff.

Describe the process for writing your lyrics, any songs in particular stand out as breakthroughs for your vocal style?

Vocals and lyrics are probably the hardest part of songwriting for me. A lot of the times I just have to sit down with the song on loop trying stuff out. I thinking my singing style draws a lot of influence from early Joji stuff.

What's next for crytothemoon?

I have a new single out and music video out 6th May. After all the covid stuff is over I'm hoping to play my first live show, which was being planned for after Easter but obviously had to be postponed.
